Sastre finished seven seconds behind Cadel Evans and 14 seconds behind stage winner Quickstep's Gert Steegmans.

Stage 20 Overview, Picks and Comment
Today is Stage 20. If Cadel Evans can make up a couple minutes he'll win the 2008 Tour de France. I don't think that will happen.
As of Friday's result, here are the top six and their position...

Bernhard Kohl is only back a minute and a half and has been really aggressive this tour. He could catch Sastre easy.
Cadel Evans is back 1:34 and he could go faster than Kohl and be in first.
But the wild-card here is Christian Vandevelde. He is back four minutes and 41 seconds. BUT, he can fly and didn't exert himself much in stage 19.
This means that if he can finish a couple minutes ahead of Evans, the Tour could be closer than LeMond Hinault and will require a sprint finish on Sunday.

Oh, today's time trial is 53KM from Cerilly to Saint Amand Montrond. The stage is rolling terrain and is LONG for a time trial.
That favors Menchov, Vandevelde and Kohl. Evans will have to be well rested and give something special to get himself into yellow.

Stage 15 Overview, Picks and Comment
First time in this year's Tour that the riders go above 2500 feet in altitude. They're headed to Italy over the Alps and will hit a category 1 and an hors category climb on their 183KM journey.
This is where the real shakeout will happen.
Abandons today will include Thor Hushovd, Robbie Mc Ewen and even Mark Cavendish.
You will see a major attack from George Hincapie as someone from Team Columbia has to take over the torch for the team.
And you'll see Cadel Evans either reel in Big George or take an even more commanding lead.
The wildcard in all this is Christian Vandevelde. He could pull a Floyd Landis (sas drugs) and create some real drama for the rest of the race.
Speaking of rest, we're off on Monday and then Tuesday is back out of Italy and north toward Alpe d'Huez.

Stage 14 Overview, Picks and Comment
With a couple of category 4 climbs and a 194.5KM journey to the Alps, stage 14 is going to shake out a few riders I bet.
We'll probably see a little larger rift in the field as some of the sprinters realize their chance is gone for glory with Cavendish slamming home win after win. Teams will look at Columbia and realize that team glory is going to have to come in second place because Columbia now has a ton of money and a bunch of wins.
My guess for this stage is the predicted winners will take over unless the entire peloton is surprised by a major breakaway.
Stage 14 will either go to Menchov, Evans, Vandevelde or Valverde. They're going to have to start battling because anything can happen with Alpe d'Huez around the bend.
If it's not a major name in this stage, it's gonna be someone like Kim Kirchen or Damiano Cunego. I've been wrong 13 times in a row, let's keep up my perfect record.
By the way, tomorrow and Sunday I'm covering events for the Boston Globe. I will get to my recaps and commentary at some point before the weekend is over, but I urge you to catch some of the British Open and the Tour de France on TV and I'll see you back here in earnest on Tuesday.

Four for the United States
No. Not a spoiler...although I don't know yet who wins this stage. But I wanted you to realize that after having a dozen or more US riders in the Tour de France in past years, we only have FOUR riders in the 2008 edition.
They are Will Frischkorn of Garmin-Chipotle, George Hincapie of Team Columbia, Christian Vandevelde of Garmin-Chipotle and Danny Pate also of Garmin-Chipotle.
Seems like if Garmin tanks, the United States only has George to root for.
